Private Pilot Licence

The Private Pilot License is a the "full featured" pilot's license. With the PPL, you can (with the appropriate training) fly larger and faster aircraft than you can with the recreational pilot permit. With this license (as with the commercial license) you receive the following priviledges and can add the following ratings:

  • The plane you fly can have up to nine seats filled.
  • You can add a multi-engine, night, VFR-OTT and IFR ratings.
  • You can upgrade to a commercial license.
  • You can fly into the United States.
Canadian Aviation Minimum Requirements
Minimum Age 17 Years of Age
Medical Requirements Category 3 Medical Certificate
Knowledge 40 hours of Ground School and 60% pass on written exam (PPAER)
Experience 45 Hours Private Pilot Flight Training
17 hours Dual with at least
3 hours Cross-country
5 hours Instrument
12 hours Solo with at least
5 hours Cross-country
Skill Complete Flight Test to standards
